Facing addiction in America

  • Opioid overdose takes a life every 19 minutes, that’s 78 people dying each day.
  • Over 20 million people have substance use disorders
  • Over 66 million people binge drink at least once a month

Addiction is a chronic illness like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. (US Surgeon General’s Report on Addiction in America November, 2016 https://addiction.surgeongeneral.gov/)

Today, there are thousands of people newly in recovery due to the opioid epidemic; some with a full spectrum of behavioral health issues who are unaware of their civil rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The timing is right to re-introduce people with mental health issues into the promise of the ADA. If you have a question about your rights under the ADA about access to health care, employment, community activities, transportation and education, call us at 800-949-4232 or email us at ADAinfo@NewEnglandADA.org
